Plan Your 2021 Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day 2021 may look a little different this year with Covid restrictions in play, but there’s still much to do in and around Detroit with Covid safe Valentine’s day options for dining out, taking out and out-of-the-box activities that’ll make the day a special one.  Whether you’re hoping for a night on the town or in your living room or a daytime activity that’ll have you home before the sun sets, here’s where to go to make it memorable.

Dining In This Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day 2021 can come equipped with a table for two despite corona at some of the most romantic restaurant destinations in town!  These eateries are offering Covid safe dining options, including enhanced social distancing measures, mask wearing on behalf of the staff and seating limits.  Request a reservation early to reserve your spot:

Andiamo Italia has with multiple locations throughout metro Detroit including Bloomfield, Dearborn, Fenton, Livonia, Riverfront, Warren, and more.  The dining room is open at all locations for the first time since the latest shutdown.  Enjoy your favorite Italian inspired dishes in an intimate dining atmosphere.   

Assaggi Bistro, Ferndale, is open 11am-9pm on Valentine’s Day, February 14, with hit-the-spot selections from both the land and the sea. 

Joe Muer, an upscale seafood restaurant in Bloomfield Hills or downtown Detroit has been offering fresh fish and creative specialty platters since 1929.  Well-known for its delicious catches, you can celebrate with an unforgettable Valentine’s Day meal in its dining area.  Call for details.

The Apparatus Room, Detroit, offers a Covid safe Valentine’s day suite separate from the rest of the dining space with a pre-fixe menu, supplemental add-ons, and exclusive wine pairings.

Grey Ghost, Detroit is re-opening its dining room on February 4 and is offering a five-course Valentine’s Day menu on February 13 for $85 per person.

Maru Sushi, Detroit, is putting together a four-course V-day dinner for two curated by its Executive Chef from February 12-14.  A la carte options will also be available to customize as you wish.

The Rattlesnake Club, Detroit, is now book Valentine’s Day reservations.  Join the club for the perfect romantic evening on the water.

The Whitney, Detroit, is offering a special four-course menu February 11-14, complete with live piano performances throughout the mansion and a souvenir Red Rose placed at each guest’s table.

Aquain Plymouth is offering a prix-fixe dinner for two that includes an Asian-American inspired dinner featuring house salad, yaki-glazed salmon or free-range chicken, creme brûlée and a bottle of Coastal Wines (Cabernet or Chardonnay). Enjoy a romantic meal ‘fishbowl’ style dining with views of downtown.

The Fiddler in West Bloomfield is also serving up a Russian prix-fixe dinner for two that includes two cups of homemade borscht, a pair of house salads, hand-rolled perogies, two entrees of your choice and Napolean Fiddler desserts.

Carry-Out Options

Perhaps Valentine’s Day 2021 looks a little more like carrying out and dining at home.  Not to worry!  A few of your favorites are also serving up festive food to go:

Bonefish Grill is offering a chance to romance the taste buds with a filet and lobster special served both in-house and to-go at any of its metro Detroit locations.

Heart-shaped pizzas are back at Hungry Howie’sfor a low-key dinner and a movie night for two.  With plenty of locations throughout Metro Detroit, you and your partner can grab and go a cute pie to share and celebrate.

P.F. Chang’s, with multiple locations in Clinton Twp, Northville, Rochester Hills, Troy and more, is offering curbside pickup of all of your favorite dishes this Valentine’s Day. 

Fleming’s, in Birmingham or Livonia, offers a three-course Prime Surf & Turf menu for two this holiday featuring a 35oz. prime tomahawk with lobster tail scampi and crab-stuffed shrimp.  Valentine’s Day carry out is available February 12-15 for curbside pickup.

Other Fun Valentine's Day Date Ideas

Love to eat but looking to spend your Valentine’s without leaving your living room?  Hoping to find Valentine’s day activities that don’t involve food?  Here’s a few venues worth looking into:

Jim Shaffer and Associates is offering a free and virtual Kids Cooking Class on Wednesday, February 10 at 5:30pm via zoom. The kids (and any adults who want to join) will be making a Dutch Baby with mixed berry jam and homemade whipped cream! You can register via Eventbrite.com.

Check out an Aphrodisiac VDay Cooking Class, streaming online February 12-15.  Grab your partner and whip up some penne pasta with baby peas, chicken, prosciutto and a parmesan cream sauce, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, and chocolate lava cake with ice cream from the comfort of your home kitchen.  Register for $50 online at Eventbrite.com.

Another option?  PizzaPlex of Detroit is offering an at-home pizza-making experience that’s sure to be memorable.  Valentine’s Day Pizza YOLO Zoom with Nathan Hannon will challenge you to make Vera Pizza Napoletana at 1pm on Sunday, February 14.  You and your partner can enjoy a bottle of each of the restaurant’s Aglianico Campania & Quattro Mani wines while making a yummy dinner.  Two premade dough balls, ingredients to make another two dough balls, all the toppings for four Margherita Pizzas, two extra pizzas to enjoy later, and a pizza stone will be included.  The class will also come with a how-to on dough prep and review of pizza ingredient fundamentals as well as a lesson on the two Italian wines, making pizza fly, and the ins-and-outs of stretching the dough.  Plus, there will be plenty of time for Q&A.  Register on Eventbrite, $85.

What about Valentine’s Day plans with friends?  Galentine’s Special Edition Manicure & Mimosas event is back at the Ultimate Craft Studio in Livonia for the third year in a row, Saturday February 13, 2pm-6pm.  Enjoy an unlimited mimosa bar, basic polish manicure or choice of nail strips, food vendors, a popup shop, mystery raffles, swag bags, and other feel-good services.  Tickets are $40 per person (21+) on Eventbrite.com and participants can select a time slot while registering.

Need a little humor to lighten the mood during these unprecedented times?  Take your Valentine’s Day plans to the Whole Hearted Comedy Show featuring comedians Foolish, Faygo Red, and Jeremiah Pauling, all serving up some much-needed belly laughs at Reflections Event Space, Pontiac, 7pm-10pm on February 14.  Tickets are $25 per person on Eventbrite.com.

Are you looking for Valentine’s Day activities that involve children?  Check out Willow Greenhouse’s Paint & Plant event in Northville on February 6, 11am-12pm.  All supplies will be provided.  Children can decorate a pot, making it as simple or intricate as they’d like.  There is also an option to pick up a kit the day before the workshop with instructions to do it at home.  Register at Eventbrite.com.  In-person is $15 and take-home kits are $10.

Feel extra crafty this V-day?  The Creative Arts Studio in Royal Oak is offering Valentine’s pottery classes on February 4, 5, or 12 at 6:30pm.  Participants can create a one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Gnome Tree or a special Valentine’s Pottery Painting piece with the help of an instructor.  Class sizes will be limited to nine students and the cost covers instruction, firing, specialty glazes, plastic lights, and a light kit.  Pottery is paid for separately in the studio.  Register online at Creative Arts Studio, https://creativeartsstudios.com/classes, for $20 + cost of pottery​.

The Bakehouse in Shelby Twp. has something truly delicious in the oven!  Take your Valentine’s day plans to the bakehouse on February 6 from 10am-11am for a creative cupcake decorating class.  Each person will receive the necessary tools to whip up four take-home cakes (2 vanilla, 2 chocolate).  Staff will guide guests step-by-step through the process and help box them up.  Registration is $30, 7 years and up, on Eventbrite.com.
