Home décor is constantly changing and moving from 2022 to 2023 brings plenty of transformations for those in the industry to show homeowners. The days of light gray are over according to industry experts. The color got more than its share of screen time thanks to HGTV but now “warm” colors are taking stage, front and center. Even neutral is getting the nod over light gray but look for warm-hued white, ivory, and camel. Here are our home decor trends to look out for in 2023!

There are some “moody hues” that are trending such as navy, green and aubergine with plaid fabric and stained wood finishes. When looking at cabinets, wood grains but not your grandparents 1970s era kitchen and basement look, are making a comeback. Actual wood and not faux-wood or veneers or particle board. Real wood is more of an investment up front but will give a longer and stronger fashionable look that won’t be dated.
Supply chain issues have created a need for creativity. Mixing old and new designs due to the lack of one or the other has kept designers on their toes. Take those antique and vintage pieces, colors and items to mix with newer ones. A foundational rug will set the base of the décor. A vintage rug will also set the table, so to speak and offers quality and longer-lasting durability that puts new rugs to shame. With the added depth and texture, look to mix in vases, planters, side tables and lighting.
Social media influences include taking some older materials such as plaster and limewash and mix them into your home’s decor. But before taking on a full room, test a small space to see how it works. A bathroom or even bedroom can be a great canvas to test this décor. Other natural materials such as wood or marble accentuate the use of plaster and limewash as well.
Wallpaper can make or break and even date décor. Nature themes are on the uptick as birds, flowers, vines and leaves are finding their way onto homeowner walls in wallpaper patterns. Nature themes can be soothing and give a faux oasis feeling that comes in handy in near zero degree winter weather. Dreaming of vacation in warm and tropical places in your own bedroom or living room makes the dull gray days of winter slide by a bit faster. Even home offices are seeing nature take over and calm down an anxious days’ work.
Bouclé fabric is on the 2023 décor outlook. Derived from the French word meaning “curled” or “ringed,” bouclé can refer to a yarn, made from a series of looped fiber, or the fabric made from it. Wool is the most common fiber to undergo the technique, though cotton, linen, and silk have also been used for achieving the fabric's textured hand. Known to add depth, use the look on upholstered chairs or throw pillows. In a room with few colors, look to use it but not overuse. Not for use in a high-traffic area, the look doesn’t wear very well according to experts.
And looking more at furniture, the high-gloss look is in. Cabinets, bookshelves and bars with high-gloss finish can add warmth but also be a bit moody. Walls and ceilings can have a high gloss look that offers a dramatic, lacquered look. Top it off with jewel-toned hardware for a 2023 décor that will be in demand.
