Oak Park was incorporated as a city in 1945, and was named "America's Fastest Growing City" in the 1950s. The city is still growing, and is home to a diverse population that includes second and third generation children of European immigrants, many of which are Jewish Americans.
Residents of Oak Park enjoy many city-provided amenities, including the Oak Park pool, an ice rink, basketball courts, tennis courts, the Oak Park Public Library, and more, all close to Shepherd Park. Depending on location, school-aged children attend either Oak Park Schools, Ferndale School District or Berkley School District.
