HIGHLIGHTS
Founded in 1818, Pontiac was the second European-American settlement in Michigan near Detroit after Dearborn. Best known for its General Motors manufacturing plants, the opportunity for employment brought many people to the city to help assemble cars - including the aptly named Pontiac automobile. As the former home of the Detroit Lions, the Pontiac Silverdome once loomed large in the city until it was demolished in 2018.
Now, however, the city is experiencing a renaissance. Always known for its nightlife, downtown Pontiac is home to many bars and restaurants, as well as the major music venue known as the Crofoot. The adjacent neighborhoods, like the Fairgrove Avenue Historic District, the Franklin Boulevard Historic District, and the Modern Housing Corporation Addition Historic District impress its unique, historic homes.
