Community Conversations: Olives Bloombox
OLIVES BLOOMBOX IN FERNDALE!
Welcome to Community Conversations: Olives Bloombox! Jim Shaffer sits down to talk with Laurie Bolach, owner of Olives Bloombox in Ferndale, about her experiences as a small business owner in these Covid days.
Olives Bloombox started in Laurieβs garage as a βside-hustleβ in addition to her corporate job, when three years ago she decided to βthrow it all inβ and buy the current Olives Bloombox building. When Laurie moved into the space she gutted the entire building, striving for a place that had a community feel and where all the neighbors could come and see plants. Olives Bloombox carries indoor/outdoor plants and also offers floral design.
While Olives Bloombox started only as a summer business, the amazing community response has allowed the business to evolve to year-round service with Christmas trees and holiday wreaths in the winter, annuals and perennials in the spring, and heirloom pumpkins and gourds in the fall. The business also hosts both private and small public seasonal workshops.
Private workshops include corporate team building events that were created after Laurie saw a need for people to do unique things with their teams. Olives Bloombox comes right to their business!
Olives Bloombox was closed for seven weeks due to COVID-19, but luckily were able to open back up in mid-May with social distancing measures in place. They also offer curbside pick-up (which has been huge!), delivery within 20 miles of the shop, and phone consultations to assist with things like front porch container design. The shop is fully stocked and a great place to escape for some therapeutic time with nature during very stressful times.
Now more than ever is a great time to surprise someone and send them a nice plant or arrangement while keeping your local businesses, like Olives Bloombox, in mind. Or raise your mood by walking around the shop, have a look around, and reconnect with nature. Thanks to Olives Bloombox for being a Ferndale gem and community partner.
